Horny Times

Okay, headlines can be misleading! Well, this one is not as I’m writing about songs I like that feature strong horn sections.

I’m not a music aficionado but I did play trumpet in school. Now THAT statement is misleading, as you probably think that I was in a high school marching band. The truth is that I played trumpet for maybe half of the school year in 7th grade.

On to my top eleven “horny” songs…enjoy because I did in making it!

  • Junior Walker & The All-Stars “Shotgun”

I don’t know half of the lyrics but I sing along anyway. This song should be featured in every 50’s and 60’s throwback feel good movie.

  • Outkast “SpottieOttieDopaliscious”

Unconventional, experimental and pushing the “what is hip hop?” boundaries…this is Outkast at its best!  More “spoken word” than rap…Damn, damn, damn James!

  • Chicago “25 or 6 to 4”

Old school Chicago (pre-soft rock era) that makes you wanna drive really fast or jog around the city like Rocky Balboa. Chicago’s horns are only comparable to Earth Wind & Fire’s in my opinion.

  • Jay-Z Roc Boys (And the Winner Is)…”

I thought Jigga had fallen off until he came with this from American Gangster! The horns make you think that the Calvary is coming!

  • Jay-Z “Show Me What You Got”

 Hova again…timeless!

  • Junior Walker & The All-Stars “What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)

Classic…my man plays the sax and sings lead!

  • Young Holt Unlimited “Soulful Strut”

Instrumental which was later remade w/vocals by Swing Out Sister among others.

  • Curtis Mayfield “Move On Up”

Inspirational and motivational…makes you want to get off your butt and contribute something positive to the planet. Kanye West did his thing with this track on “Touch the Sky”  featuring Lupe Fiasco.

  • The Ides of March “Vehicle”

Nevermind the stranger danger opening lyrics “I’m the friendly stranger in the black sedan won’t you hop inside my car…”

  • Earth, Wind and Fire “Can’t Hide Love”

You can’t go wrong with any EWF song! This list could have been made entirely of EWF and Chicago songs.

  • Camp Lo “Luchini AKA This Is It.”

The track is a sample from Dynasty’s “Adventures In the Land of Music”, but Camp Lo made it their own.
